President George W. Bush is coming HERE to Iowa City!

George W. Bush has decided to come to Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Coralville tomorrow to inspect the flood damage. Or so we were told on the evening news. It warms the cockles of my heart, to know that the President of the United States is coming to inspect me. I'm all a-twitter.

We'll have plenty of water for him to look at, at least here in Iowa City and Coralville. As of this moment, the flood waters are still at 29.37 feet, which is higher than the previous flooding record (set in 1993) of 28.5 feet. Flood stage is 22 feet. So yes indeedy, we have plenty of water for him to exclaim over.

A place called home.

This site began as a vision of mine somewhere around a year ago, and though it has been met with many challenges in it's creation - with more to come, I'm sure - here it is, for you.

One of the primary goals I have for it is connecting us, all around the world. The artists, the dreamers, the people who have the power to change the world through beauty - and do. That's absolutely everybody as far as I'm concerned, but maybe someone just needs a kick in the ass to get them going.

Please push and post this site everywhere you possibly can think of; It is the first and only of it's kind out there as far as I know, and maybe someone has been looking for it - which is where the seed for this dream was planted. I was that person not too long ago.

Though I wish to keep away from political issues, I do want to address the numerous ways we can improve the world around us. Red, Black, White & yellow - with a Green tint. Dig what I'm saying?

SO - please check out the site, push it around to everyone, everywhere, and most importantly, enjoy it.

Caucus of the Future - Jan 2 & 3 - DSM

I posted over on the Iowa tribe and thought I would share here too... I had never heard of this before and my brother enlightened me about the program today. Sounds interesting - I'll still be caucusing but I think I'm going to check it out too...

http://www.caucusofthefuture.com/

WHAT IT IS
The Caucus of the Future will take place January 2nd & 3rd, 2008 in Des Moines, Iowa, running concurrently with the Iowa Caucuses. Our goal is to dream up and practice the many ways we can take power out of the hands of those who claim to represent our interests, be they elected or unelected, and redistribute it to everyone through a network of free communities and neighborhoods. Through workshops, discussions and performances, the Caucus of the Future will provide a forum for exchanging alternative ideas that are based on mutual aid and cooperation. Patrons of the Caucus will share skills and resources with each other, demonstrating the many ways we can make a difference in our own lives, with or without casting a vote. We do not do this to gain control over others, but to attain control together—over how we provide each other with shelter, education, art, and information, over how we resolve conflicts, over how we share resources and ideas, over how we determine our own lives.

It should be noted that we do not wish to dissuade folks from participating in the Iowa Caucuses–rather, we want to present a more direct approach to solving problems. The Caucus of the Future will have something for everyone, so be sure to participate! Oh, and it will also be a ridiculous amount of fun!!

WHAT TO EXPECT
We will be providing participants of the event with a Caucus of the Future Guide that will list all of the speakers, workshops and performaces and the times they will be held. In addition, we will have that information on this site as things come into fruition.

Some workshops and discussions you can expect to see might include: Alternative Energy/Fuel, Sustainable Agriculture/Permaculture, Alternative Media, Direct Action, Self-Defense, Folk History, Bicycle Repair, Community Gardening, Consent, Gift Economics, Urban Exploration, Community Organizing, Alternative Education, and much more.

The Caucus of the Future will provide a festive atmosphere with free organic vegetarian food and beverages, and performances by musicians and artists.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
If you wish to participate in the Caucus of the Future [give a workshop, leading a discussion, performance, etc], head on over to the Get Involved section and fill out the form. It’s important that we have a diverse mix of workshops, skillshares and speakers so we can keep this an all inclusive event; which is to say, please participate if you can!

Flamenco workshop in Iowa for belly dancers, Latin dancers, and others

The weekend of November 9-11, we're holding an "Essence of Flamenco" workshop in Iowa City, Iowa featuring guest artist Mariano Parra from New York.

The event is designed for the needs of dancers who would like to incorporate something of flamenco posture, arm carriage, movement, and attitude into their personal styles, and equip themselves to move credibly to music that includes a Spanish flavor. No prior flamenco experience is required. The workshop is designed for the needs of:

* Belly dancers who specialize in American Tribal Style and like to use flamenco posture, hand floreos, and other techniques in their dance
* Belly dancers who specialize in Egyptian style who want to emulate the Andalusian-flavored pieces by Samia Gamal, Tahia Carioca, Mahmoud Reda, and others. It includes dancers who like to use music (such as El Hub Kulu) that contains Andalusian elements
* Flamenco dancers wishing to polish their basic technique under the guidance of a master instructor
* Latin dancers who wish to enhance their dance stylings with flamenco movement
* Ballet, modern dance, and other artists who wish to add some flamenco techniques to their repertoires
* Dancers of any form who wish to perform Gypsy-inspired pieces
* Dancers of any form who wish to use skirt work in their choreographies

For full details, see the Kahraman Near East Dance Ensemble web site at http://www.kahramandance.org/images/Parra%20Brochure%20Front%20Zephyr%20version%5B1%5D.pdf

In addition to the dance workshops, the event will include a Friday evening lecture by Mariano on the history of Spanish dance, including its ties to the Gypsy trail and North Africa. There will also be a Friday evening dance party at a salsa club, and a Saturday night dance concert of professional dancers drawn from the communities of Latin and Middle Eastern dance artists.

If you like the dance styles of Nourhan Sharif, Dalia Carella, Elena Lentini, Tamalyn Dallal, and others, then you'll appreciate this opportunity to take a workshop from a master instructor who inspired them and contributed to their skills.

Mahmoud Reda in eastern Iowa July 27-29, 2007

Date & Time: Friday, July 27, 2007 - Sunday, July 29, 2007
Location: Ballantyne Auditorium (Saturday/Sunday only)
6301 Kirkwood Blvd. SW
Cedar Rapids, Iowa view map
More Info: 319-354-9638
Web site: http://www.kahramandance.org/Mahmoud_Reda_Web_Flyer.htm

Mahmoud Reda will return to the Iowa City area on July 27-29, 2007 to teach workshops in Egyptian dance. The event includes:

* Early bird arrivals: showing of the Reda movie Gharam fi al-Karnak with English subtitles on Thursday evening
* A hafla Friday night featuring performances by workshop attendees (some professionals, some students)
* Workshops during the day on Saturday and Sunday
* A show of entirely professional dancers on Saturday night

The workshops will be held in an air-conditioned facility.

For those not familiar with Mahmoud Reda, he was the founder of an entire performing art in Egypt, that of the theatrical presentation of folkloric dance. He founded Reda Troupe in 1959, starred in several movies that also featured his choreography, and became known as Egypt's greatest choreographer.

Even if you normally dance barefoot, be sure to wear either dance shoes or socks to this workshop to protect the soles of your feet and your knees. Reda's dance style involves a large amount of spins, Arabesques, and other pivoting moves, and your feet need to be able to pivot freely without sticking to the floor.

have you chosen a presidential candidate, yet?

I didn't think I would find myself aligning with one candidate so soon, but with so much in the news how can you not?
Being a woman, I love that there is a strong woman candidate; but I just can't bring myself to support Clinton. Don't get me wrong, I loved Bill Clinton and thought both of them were a great team during his 8 years. But I just don't think Hillary is far enough away from the conventional. She followed right along in giving Bush a blank check to start a war and she's got a lot of other baggage. Not that baggage is necessarily wrong (some say Rudy's baggage of three marriages will cause him problems); but I'm just not getting a sincere feeling from her.

Ya know, to me, the one person who sounds good through all the sound bites is Barack Obama. No matter how small the sound bite, he sounds eloquent, sincere, smart and trustworthy. I can't believe that I missed seeing him when he was in Denison! I want to hear him in person to see if he's just as good as his sound bites! He so eloquently explains his own, internal struggles and admits that he's only human and can never be perfect. Have any of you read his books?

I think that we can only go up from where we are (unless Mitt is elected). The Bush Administration has taken us down a long, dark hole and has over-used the federal system to advance their personal agenda. It's disgusting that the American People have not said ENOUGH!!!!!

Well 2008 cannot come soon enough; but in the meantime let's discuss politics for awhile. Let's try not to call people names (except the candidates, if you so please) and let's hold the space for each person to voice their beliefs. Remember that the great thing about our country is that we have the freedom to express our thoughts and ideas. I know that forums can get pretty heated when talking politics, but if we remember not to attack each other on a personal level, things will be fine.

So, anyone feel like persuading me to another candidate? I haven't given any money so I'm not set on one, just leaning a particular way.

Monday April 23rd, Palisades, my birthday

so I'm taking it upon myself since I'm a single, lonely broke ass artist to try and do something for me on my birthday...ya, 38 on monday...

so I'm inviting anyone and everyone that is cool, creative, fun, sexy, smart, respectful and cool (hmm, sed that...) to Palisades park on Monday night about 7pm...

I'm bringing me and my conga and a little wood to burn. I invite spinners and burners, hoopers and drummers, guitar players, dancers, artists, singers, swingers, soul seekers, freaks, hippies, beatniks and the like...

bring your drum, strings, fire, hoop, swords, bag, beer, bottle and anything else you need to have a good time outside. So long as you take whatever you bring in back out with you...

anybody that doesn't know how or where just google 'Palisades park Iowa' and get directions...it's easy.

I know it's short notice but I really do hope to see someone out there...just think of me crying into my hands all alone....hehehe....kidding.

Be well and I hope to see you there...thanx in advance for your consideration...

cheers!!

Iowa Dance Festival April 9-15, 2007 in Iowa City & Coralville

For those who would enjoy taking dance classes or attending dance concerts, the schedule for the Iowa Dance Festival (being held in Iowa City and Coralville) has been posted:

http://www.iowa.com/organization_detail.aspx?Organization_Id=1948

The way it works is that you can pay piecemeal for classes ($5) and shows ($10) if you like, or you can purchase a button for $25 that covers your admission to all the classes and concerts.

I'm not one of the organizers, just one of the local dancers who will be teaching a class and performing in one of the shows. The link above has the email address for the organizers.

Iowa City Dance Festival being planned, looking for volunteers

Some folks in Iowa City are organizing an "Iowa City Dance Festival" to be held April 12-15. It's in the early planning stages at this point - the kickoff meeting was this past Wednesday night.

There is talk of renaming it to "Iowa Dance Festival" because there is talk of having some events in other communities (for example, at CSPS in Cedar Rapids). If there are people outside of Iowa City who want to organize events in their own communities under the umbrella (and have those events listed on the schedule of activities), there's an option to do that.

At this point, the Iowa City organizers are looking for a variety of volunteers. Any skills you have that could be used would be welcomed. Some examples (but we're not limited to these) include:

* Helping set up and tear down for shows
* Translating between Spanish/English on behalf of guest artists from Spain who are being brought to town to teach workshops and do performances
* Recruiting restaurants to donate meals for the Spanish guest artists
* Recruiting retail shops to put dance-related displays of their merchandise in their windows during the week
* Recruiting places with dance floors (bars, restaurants, etc.) to feature performances or social dance during the week
* Artists to create logos and promotional flyers/posters
* People with marketing skills to help get the word out
* People with business or finance skills to help create budgets and provide fiscal guidance
* Dancers of any style to teach workshops or do performances
* People with webmaster skills to create promotional web site that lists events
* Project management skills to help coordinate all this stuff
* Fundraising (to pay for rental of venues for performances and cost of bringing guest artists in from Spain)
* Organizing schedules of workshops and performances
* Anything else you would be willing to do that would help the cause

Again, these are just starter ideas - if you have an idea on a way that you could help that I haven't listed, the organizers would still welcome your participation!

The email address for contacting the organizers if you would like to volunteer your skills to the event is iowadancefest@aol.com

Motherhood and Local Food

I'm sorry for being such a terrible moderator. Motherhood and starting up a new business has completely taken over my life! I'm glad so many people have joined and I hope you all can keep the conversation going.
My daughter just turned one and for the past two years I've been working on starting a cooperative natural foods store in Carroll. It's been such a whirlwind but I've been meeting some wonderful people who really care about our land, our food and the health and well-being of people.

Check out our website at: http://www.communitymarketcoop.com

If any of you are near Carroll, come to one of our membership drives.

Community Market is dedicated to providing an economic outlet for local producers as well as providing healthier foods for the community. We chose the cooperative business model so we knew that our mission would stay true and that the money would stay within the community.
Many of you may have been hearing more about Local Foods. There is a good debate going on around our country about whether local food is better for us and the environment than organic food. Sure, organic food may be better than conventional, until it has to travel over 1500 miles just to get to us. So, with all the petroleum now used, the extra packaging and harvesting the product before it's ripe, you can see why Local Food can be much more attractive.

I'd love to hear what any of you think about this and if any of you shop at a local cooperative grocer such as Wheatsfield in Ames or New Pioneer in Iowa City/Coralville.

Drum Circles (or the lack thereof) in Cedar Rapids

yes, I am looking to jam with some people. I have a conga and would love to get together with at least 4 or 5 other people who want to just sit and jam.

I find there is a serious lack of activities in Cedar Rapids that don't involve bars, beers and other things I don't want and can't afford.

So, anybody out there? Got a drum? Wanna take the plant off of it and use it?

hoopers and spinners too...you guys need a rhythm section?

hugs from Juan the Mann

so I just got a bulletin from Juan Mann about a new international hug movement and thought I'd share...see more here...

http://www.freehugscampaign.org/

and here's the bulletin, unaltered.

cheers...

Yesterday marked the launch of freehugscampaign.org, an international forum for people to meet and kick start their own free hugs campaigns in their own cities and towns across the globe.

Thanks to your initiative, interest and inspiration, working together we can make the strangers in our world smile, with the hope of making our world a friendlier place.

Jump into the forums, read the stories, the experiences, be as involved as you'd like to be. Someday soon, you'll see someone hugging in your city, in your town and maybe, just maybe, that hugger will be me!

Hugs, Juan!

I am a fire spinnin', bellydancing, uv lovin' creature with Hubby and kidlets. Hubby and I are intrested in spinning, drumming, zombie walks in the moonlight, and pina coladas. Kids would love to zombie walk too if Mom would let them. We also play in the SCA and are intrested in heavy fighting, and cooking. Looking for anything to keep us spinning and drumming. I spin flags, led light poi and fire. I also play around with flower sticks and working on staff. As we are married we get bored with just each other's company. Needing to make friends around Iowa. We like all sorts of strange music. I am always listening to Solace. So, Let us know where the phun is going down and we will try and make it. Naarai

What would it take to start up one of these- see how many people we could get to converge in one area and do it. I'd say not so much for Halloween - zombies at Halloween are passe, IMO.
Here's the inspiration - http://www.laalternative.com/index.php/2006/10/09/hunting-for-brains-in-hollywood/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie_Walk

Wikipedia has it that they go towards the cemetery- but what if we started at Woodland and made our way downtown? Not so very many blocks, after all...

So, Grinnell College's Dagorhir (foam sword fighting) club will be hosting a Renaissance faire on September 30th (Saturday) and we would love it if some fire spinners, belly dancers, or just general ren faire people showed up. You can just come and hang out, do some spinning/ dancing, whatever. We'll hopefully have our college belly dancers performing at the faire and some musical groups. Grinnell College is located in Grinnell, Iowa. I'll put time specifics of when the faire is starting/ ending up on this thread once I know what they are (the guy in charge is being slow). But yea, look forward to seeng some of you there!

Hey i'm running around looking for fun new people in the area. I am part of a performance group called PyroTechniq. We spin fire, do UV (blacklight) shows, hanging silks, drum circles, and other fun stuff. Just wondering if anyone out there wants to get together and try something new and fun. If you have any show coming up or something fun going on and want us to spice it up get ahold of me! If you check out my pictures you will see a bunch of fire pictures and whatnot. Our website www.PyroTechniq.com will be up shortly.

Even if there is no show we are always looking for new people to spin with us and just hang out. We head out to the palisades Park about twice a week or so and build a fire and spin and grill out. Its always a good time. Bring some blanket to sit on and cuddle up with. lol. Anyway get ahold of me on here and let me know if you ever want to come out or have us come perform at your gig! Thanks

Taking off this weekend for a two-day horse trail ride! Yeah, we're crazy, but it's a ride my sister does every year and this year I'm joining her. There's usually about 100 riders, put on by the Yale Saddle Club. We'll be riding around Guthrie Center and Panora, so lots of timber to go in and out of.

Hope everyone stays cool this weekend!

Mark and I had an idea a while back that a bunch of us should go to the Rennaissance Festival in Minnesota. I still think it would be a great idea.

It's the biggest in the midwest and there are all sorts of metalworkers, artists, etc. that come from all over to sell their work there. I've been many times and every time I find something I LOVE. You can buy an entire belly dancing outfit there or talk to the people who made them about making something for you. Seriously, it's amazing.

Also, there's a group discount, so if we all went together we could get in for a lot cheaper. There are also many hotels in the area or camp sites if we decided to go that route. Let me know what you think!

Summer Phun

Hey how is everyone's summer so far? We've done some camping; last weekend went to Springbrook, it was very nice. Not sure what we'll do for the 4th weekend. There is a benefit concert at Seed Savers Exchange that I'm interested in. Singer/songwriter Greg Brown is headlining. Check it out at www.seedsaversexchange.org

I've also been busy heading up a steering committee to create a local foods co-op grocery in our area. Do any of you shop at Wheatsfield Grocery in Ames or New Pioneer Co-op in Iowa City/Coralville? There are so many good producers in our area that we wanted to create a better outlet for them than just the seasonal farmers' markets. A co-op is a great way to increase the economic viability of your community....it keeps money in your town and it's owned and democratically controlled by the community members. We're in the process of deciding on a name what do you think of any of these?

1. Your Farm & Garden Food Market
2. Your Garden Fresh Market
3. Your Community Food Market

Well, I'm busy, busy, busy but that's how I like it. I'd much rather be working on a project than just coming home and not having anything to do (except housework).

Well, speaking of work, I've done enough of it today, so time to crash in front of the tv and watch the second Underworld movie; any of you seen it?

Yep, we had our baby. A sweet little girl named Juniper Ann. She is already two months old! The time has gone by so fast, I'm not ready to go back to work next month. Although I do enjoy my job, I'm not looking forward to being away from her for so long.

We had a great experience having our pregnancy and birth with a midwife in Des Moines; Dana Erikson. If any of you know someone who wants to have a pregnancy and birth that is filled with choices and be completely empowered and in charge, I'd be more than happy to pass on her info. She does have a web site, too: http://www.midwifeanddoula.com/index.htm

Well I'm slowly getting back into a routine, finding time for a while on the computer and checking in with everyone.

Looking forward to going out today and do some hard work, it's lovely out there and Juniper really likes being outdoors.

Okay gotta run for now!

Hey have you all seen the ad on Tribe about David Lynch coming to Iowa. I clicked on it and it's going to be in Fairfield. It's March 24-26 and he will be speaking with a quantum physicist about transcendental meditation and higher thinking. It sounds really cool.

Anyway, check out the link for more info.

Anyone a David Lynch fan? I've loved all of his movies, but I guess I'm one to go for really quirky, hard to follow/understand movies.

I'm sure the groundhog saw it's shadow, but hell, we haven't even had a winter, so I'd actually look forward to some "more" weeks of it. Of course, knowing my luck we'll get slammed with a blizzard and I'll go into labor!
Happy New Year all

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year celebration and you're gearing up for a successful 2006 filled with love, happiness and lots of family and friends around you.
Time has been busy for us, getting the house and specifically the nursery ready for our first born. We are due end of Feb, but that might go into early March, ya never know!

I'm not one to make resolutions, but I always start the new year out with thoughts of staying positive, being kind to myself and others and living whatever dreams I may have.

Currently I'm working with a couple of people on getting a grocery co-op opened in the Carroll area. We've been doing a lot of research on cooperatives and are now in the process of creating a steering committee to raise funds to pay for a feasibility study. We had an article on the front page about this and it has generated a lot of interest. It seems many people support this type of business, both producers and consumers. It's very exciting and has kept me quite busy. Our store will be a similar model to Wheatsfield Grocery in Ames.

So, what's going on with all of you?

Iowa Caucus is here!

IT'S CAUCUS TIME!

Here's a request from gov candidate Ed Fallon:

Precinct caucuses are just more than a week away, and I'd like to take this chance to encourage you to attend and participate (see the recent press release on our "News" page for more details). These caucuses are particularly significant because the delegates elected there and at the county conventions will determine the Democratic nominee for governor if no candidate receives 35% of the vote in the primary election on June 6th. If you'd like to help us organize your precinct, send an e-mail to FFGAdam@gmail.com and we'll get you started.

Also, if you're planning on attending your caucus, I would like to encourage you to offer this resolution for the party platform:

Whereas campaigns at all levels have become more expensive and more negative; and whereas large donors and wealthy special interest groups exert far too much control over policies that affect all Iowans; and whereas Arizona, Connecticut and Maine have enacted successful clean election laws which provide for public financing of campaigns for local and state offices; therefore, be it resolved that the Iowa Democratic Party supports a clean elections law for Iowa.

Your local precinct caucus will be held on Monday, January 16 at 6:30 pm.
IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ARRIVE BY 6:30 IN ORDER TO BE COUNTED AS AN OFFICIAL ATTENDEE. To find out where your caucus will be held, contact your County Democratic Party Chair.

No, but I have been seriously sidetracked these past few months. Over the summer James and I found out that we're expecting! So, I've been spending lots of time on line researching and reading.

We've found a wonderful midwife in Des Moines and will be delivering at Iowa Methodist. We had an ultrasound this past Friday and found out that we are having a very healthy, baby girl! I'm ecstatic.

Ahhh, it's nice to have the cold weather back. I really wasn't enjoying that 80 degree weather in October, especially since I packed away all my "summer" clothes. It was fun to wake up to snow flurries Sunday morning (yeah, I got up at 7am!). James is hoping for lots of snow. I would love to go snowshoeing this winter. Used to go when I lived in Oregon.

Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hello to everyone and to wish everyone a Happy Halloween! I sure hope we can do something this weekend.

bwahahahahahha

Hi folks...I'll be spending almost a week in Iowa City, doing some research at the University. I'll also have a good bit of free time. Any recommendations for fun places to go? Good places to eat? Interesting things to see?

Pretend I've never been to the midwest before.

Kind of a late notice but we are having a raver day at adventureland with all kinds of people attending. It is for a good cause (www.supportthefuture.org) and we are doing a "rave" afterword that 100% of everything goes to local schools (including the money the promoter puts into it). I put the event listing in. If anyone is interested we have discounted tickets available and will have the adventureland clubhouse from 12-4.

Hello fellow Iowans,

Just found this tribe and thought I'd join since I live in Iowa myself.

Little bit about me, 44, 6' 250 pounds, live in Sioux City and I am a massage therapist. Born and raised in NE Iowa I came the the NW area about 18 years ago. Married 24 years no kids but have 2 cats and a dog.

Been doing massage for 5 1/2 years and damn good at it if I do say so myself.

If you want to know more, ask away!

This should be a blast. ISSDS places fake lobsters in the water at Clear Water Beach and we scuba dive for them. Each one is marked with a number with a corresponding prize, i.e. dive computers, BC's, lights, etc... After the dive we get enjoy steak and lobster cooked at the lake along with a few adult beverage's ;-) I'll post a few photos sometime this weekend.

The results of the research are complete, and the migration of the ever elusive Iowa Red Lobster will bring them in the Polk County area on Saturday, July 9th, 2005.

You don't want to miss this event. There will be prizes, great food, games, great food, swimming, great food, and lots of fun to be had by all.

Reservations for this event are a must since we are making available perishable foods. Call us today, at 515 222-3483, with your reservation, what you would like to eat, your t-shirt size and how many in your party.

We'll probably grab dinner at Rock Bottom Brewery as they also have free pool on Sundays!

Since our organized horse ride was cancelled on Saturday due to all the rain, my sister and I drove into Des Moines to check out the wine festival. It was a lot of fun and I did want to check out the East Village. For lunch we stopped at the Noodle Zoo. Oh, the food was refreshing, delicious; everything homemade and quite a few vegetarian choices!

If you're ever near the capitol, check out Noodle Zoo, on Locust & 6th.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has restaurant suggestions? Perhaps some place that offers a very diverse menu.

Well, we're off to Portland, OR for the holiday weekend and for James' niece's wedding in Central Oregon. Today the high in Portland is going to be 92! Kind of rare; but lately they've been getting some hot Summers. I sure hope we get a hot Summer; after last year I'm ready for it.

Okay, ask me in a couple of months when it's sweltering, if I'm still longing for the heat! :-)

I am itchin' to have a party very soon, do some drumming and some fire dancing. If any of you burners would be interested in driving out to Audubon (we live on the eastern side of the county) we'd love to meet you and share in some fire celebration.

Portland vacation

Well, it was a whirwind trip to Portland but we had a ton of fun visting our family/friends, drinking really good beer and coffee and eating some great food.

Friday was very hot in Portland, 93. In the evening we met with some friends for dinner that some of us walked down NW 23rd St (a very trendy part of downtown Portland), grabbed a sidewalk table and drank some lovely espresso. As we endulged in some animated conversation, we watched all the freaks walk by. Oh, how I miss the freaks of Portland! Ya know it could easily be a much smaller version of S.F.

Monday night we were treated to an evening of hanging out with our band friends. And they obliged us with some jammin. It was so nice to hear them live again. We used to be able to hear them play almost every weekend, so we were definitely jonesin'. But they also sent us on our way with an armload of cds of the past shows we've missed.

Overall, fantastic trip; looking forward to going out again in August for another wedding. But, it was good to get home and sleep in our own bed and to see all our pets.
